My name is Rudo, an occasional trail runner, and I had the honor of taking part in several great runs in India, among them the Malnad Ultra, the Indrahar Summit Run and the Burj Mountain Trail Run. All of them were simply fantastic. I live in Germany, where among other things I write race reports for a site aptly named trailrunning.de. By comparing the local scenes, I noticed how much untapped potential India has for trail running – and how hard it is for a novice or a foreign traveller to find a concise overview of actual events. So when I found that the domain www.trailrunning.in was still available, I just had to get it and give it a try.

Just to put trail running in India in perspective: In Europe we are 9,30,581 (yes, almost 10 lakh) male runners listed with ITRA, the International Trail Running Association, as of December 2025. In India we are only 6,427, even though the Indian population is more than twice that of Europe, and also much younger. So we should be able to grow the Indian trail running community by a factor of almost 300 over the coming decades, so why not a factor of 10 within a few years. I am convinced there are fantastic opportunities and exciting times ahead for Indian trail running!

My hope is that this website can contribute a little to facilitate this growth. And I hope that at some point there will be someone in India who has an even greater vision for this site and will be able to take it over from me. But for now I am fully committed. Especially to hit more trails in India – join me!
